Welcome to the Digital Art Group!

This is the place to discuss digital art - share tips and techniques, learn about different computer programs and tools, and ask questions.

Click here to learn how to upload images into your forum posts (which is important so that people can see your art within the post, rather than as an attachment link beneath your post).

Before uploading your digital art, make sure your work fits this definition: "Computer-generated art that is created by hand (i.e. using a tablet, stencil etc), either from scratch or from a reference source."

Under this definition, photographs that have been slightly tweaked (photo-edited) are not accepted as "digital art" on this site - for example, running a photograph through a few Photoshop filters and displaying it as a finished work of digital art. Even though this can result in some beautiful imagery, we decided early on that we don't want photography on this site because there are many sites out there to share photos, and feel that edited/filtered photos belongs on a photography site and not here.

Click here to read more about the distinction between digital art vs digital photo editing, to help determine whether your images belong on this site or a photography site.

Latest iPad/Procreate creation

This is my latest effort. I don't usually add colour and when I do, I'm afraid I overdo it. In this one, I was learning how to fake gradients in Procreate. I think I did ok on the gradients or shading, but I still got too much colour on the piece.…READ MORE

That is awesome Terry. I love when updates are made with art software. Never know what is in stored for creating wonderful pieces. I however is at a pause with creating new works for the moment. Right now I am focusing on sharing what I have created so far. Thank you for the reply.

Hi Jeanette! Good to see someone posting here in Digital Art. I've been having fun with the app, Paper 53 on the iPad. The latest update really added some great features. I love being able to use the art I create for my own greeting cards, etc.

I do my digital artwork using the program GIMP and mixed with some other programs and apps that I have installed on my pc. I also have a tablet and I do have an very old Wacom tablets well. I do use much of Wacom do on how heavy and big it is. I enjoy exploring my options when it comes to making digital art work. I tend to use and make the most out of the free apps and software that the online world has provided for people like me who can afford software like Adobe. Needless to say I am happy of what I got to work with and proud what I can create.

For those interested in making pattern brushes in Procreate, found this page of "Zentangle grid seeds" (new phrase to me) that would work great for making pattern brushes.

Just found those pesky pixels! Thanks so much Margaret! I'm getting the hang of this but get easily frustrated at each new roadblock. So glad you're here to advise me, lol!

Thanks Margaret! I'll see if I can find those stray pixels between patients. Then I can finish the centre. I want to try this on a rectangular canvas and turn it into colouring pages. Different colour finishes and put them together like a Warhol (eg Marilyn Monroe)

Jo, I hate it when that happens! At some point, you did some erasing and missed a few tiny bits. Just use an eraser to go over the middle of the drawing and test again. If there is even one stray pixel on the drawing it will look "huge" when you use the brush.

Margaret, I've been playing with the tutorial in procreate for making pattern brushes ( and also the link at the bottom for Design Sponge and how to make a repeat pattern ( I've been working on a dragonfly repeat pattern and tried to test once I'd moved all the picture pieces to the four corners. I've tested at this stage and there appears to be some dots showing up in the repeat, which I can't see on the drawing. I'm trying to figure out how to erase this part of the pattern repeat, hoping you have some insight.

Terry, thanks for the design seeds link, that's going to be useful. I've already got it bookmarked in my Procreate folder!

Thanks, having lots of fun making pattern brushes. Started one yesterday based on this tutorial, at the very end of the tutorial there's a link shared on making repeat patterns,
I'm trying one with dragonflies (what else!?!)but have not finished the whole pattern yet.

Thank you for the info, Jo. I think for now I will keep using what I have been. My favorite stylus after trying lots of them including the Sensu brush is the little $5.00 plastic one they sell at the check out counter at Walgreens. They come in bright colors and are light and thin. I don't want anything that will scratch my screen that's for sure.

Love your patterns and those gloves look interesting. I don't have too much trouble with my palms resting on the iPad, but good to know.

I was on FB today and someone shared this awesome site for colors When you see an image on the site that you like, you press on it and select "open" in the window that appears - then when it opens, you press on the image again and select "copy" then pull it into Procreate when you first start your new drawing by selecting "import" when you start and then "Clipboard". Here's the link:
