So, on Saturday I entered my first art show.  I joined a great organization in Atlanta, where I live.  They have a monthly show with a theme.  This one was "A Dash of Red".  I volunteered to help accept submissions and accept payment.  It was a lot of fun meeting people and seeing all the talent that walked in the door.

I honestly didn't expect to get selected to show, and I did not get selected.  That's okay.  I had one very nice, validating moment.  While talking with some people, I saw a stranger looking at one of my pieces at the other end of the room.  He looked away for a moment and then looked back at it again.  The third time he did this, he walked over to it and picked it up to look at the back.  Personally?  I feel like I arrived at that moment, when a total stranger was interested in my art!  It was different than when friends and family see my work and praise me excessively.  This was real!

So, every judge has their own taste and vision.  I am not disheartened.  I knew that I would have to learn how to handle rejection and I guess I can handle it.  I like to look on the positive side of things.  Sure, I was a little bummed out this morning when I found out I didn't make it.  But, out of 167 entries, only 64 were selected.  So I am not alone.  All is good!

Well! I entered my second show, and this time one of my paintings got selected for the month long April exhibit! I am so happy and feel validated! The judge chose Low Tide in Zanzibar.

We went to the reception on Sunday to hear the who the winners were (not me). That's okay, I'm on the wall with the others selections. Out of 276 paintings, 80 are up. What a great feeling. :)

Congrats!!! I haven't done anything like that yet, but I have submitted things for the student art show and have had at least two each time.. and the online student journal the first time accepted 3/5, but this time only accepted 2/5! I was surprised because my current work is SO much better than last years. It's funny what people accept sometimes.. and what they reject!
