Any words of advice? A prominent local art gallery owner is visiting us tonight for a glass of wine and to see how we've hung some purchases in our home. His companion knows that I've been painting. I am sure they are going to look at some of my work and I just don't feel ready to be critiqued. I am quite nervous about what they might say could affect my spirit and freedom of expression. I keep hoping that I can take what they may say with a grain of salt. I suspect that I will be very sensitive about this because of how personal each painting is to me.
Comment by Cat Demkiw on January 10, 2013 at 5:53pm Oh Adrienne don't worry...be happy :) as the saying goes positive energy is your plan of attack. Everything will be fine. And if they don't want to see your art ASK them if they would like to...create your own path! Hugs and positive art vibes sending out to you.

Comment by Ev McTaggart on January 10, 2013 at 7:50pm Good luck!!!! Break a leg--or whatever one says to artists. One says "Merde!" to dancers but I think that probably doesn't translate to visual artists! :-)

Comment by Randi R. Vaughan on January 11, 2013 at 12:19pm I'm glad that the meeting went well and that they've like your work. I too, would be nervous to show off any of my work. Knowing me, I'll probably serve them a FEW GLASSES OF WINE! lol. I agree with Cat, think positive and everything will be all right. Fret about every little thing and Murphy's Law will be enforced.
Adrienne, Funny that you should say they liked the ones from your head. I agree it is so good not to be constrained by a picture. I'm working on a Grape vine painting and have actually taken the design from three sources. One is from an Art Book from the Library, 1600s painting, one from a greeting card and one from another book. Will be interesting how to combine those three resourses. My Library has big books of Van Gogh and other Artists from different eras. This painting will go to a Winery where we will display our work for sale.
Comment by Adrienne Miller on January 27, 2013 at 1:42pm Very nice place to have your work on display. Where is the Winery?
I am going to enter a couple of my pieces into a juried art show this coming weekend. It will be my first. One is my interpretation of a real place done with much imagination, the other from a photo, with some creative liberties. My biggest problem though, has been finding "floater" frames for them at a low price. Unfortunately I painted them on 7/8" deep canvas and the minimum is 1". They require a frame if less than 1". Any sources you can recommend? I've tried Dick Blick, Jerry's, Michael's, Hobby Lobby. Either they are too expensive, don't have what I need, or won't arrive in time. :(
